John Tuomisto-Bell has over 30 years’ experience in the “Lost Wax” method of casting bronze. At his Phoenix studio he has constructed all the necessary equipment (wax, furnace, burnout, slurry room, metal chasing, fabrication, and patina) to produce, cast and fabricate his work. He also currently operates a full-service art foundry: Tuomisto Bell Studio Foundry, (founded 2001), casting for local and nationally recognized artists.

John Tuomisto-Bell's process of casting bronze is a meticulous blend of traditional techniques and contemporary artistry. He begins by creating a detailed mold, often from sculpted clay or wax, ensuring that the intricate features of his designs are captured with precision. Once the mold is prepared, it is heated to expel any moisture and then filled with molten bronze, a material chosen for its durability and aesthetic appeal. After cooling, the mold is carefully removed to reveal the raw bronze piece, which Tuomisto-Bell then refinishes, adding textures and patinas that enhance the sculpture's character. This process not only showcases his technical skill but also reflects his commitment to crafting works that engage and inspire viewers.
