Artist Statement for "Walking Man"

"Walking Man," standing at 74” inches tall, serves as a poignant embodiment of humanity's intrinsic contradictions. This piece originally featured in the exhibition “Walking the Path” reflects an in-depth exploration of the human psyche.

In “Walking the Path,” I sought to delve into the core of human existence, grappling with themes of intelligence, aggression, and violence—elements that have persistently shaped our lives. These attributes often coexist as our greatest strengths and profound weaknesses. "Walking Man" encapsulates this paradox; the figure's straight forward gaze suggests aspiration and intent, while its posture hints at the burdens we carry.

Through the use of simple icons, such as the lone figure depicted in "Walking Man," I aim to communicate on an emotional level the complexities of our consciousness, our truths, and the spectrum of human emotion. The juxtaposition of materials—bronze representing strength and permanence, while acrylics introduce a touch of vulnerability and emotion—mirrors the complexities of the human condition.

Ultimately, "Walking Man" is not only an investigation of our darker impulses but also a celebration of the beauty that can be found in the simplest acts of humanity. It stands as a testament to our journey, the paths we walk, and the understanding we seek in our shared experience.
